Where Will You Put Your Trust?
1 Samuel 8:18-22
[18] And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day.”
The LORD Grants Israel’s Request
[19] But the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel. And they said, “No! But there shall be a king over us, [20] that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.” [21] And when Samuel had heard all the words of the people, he repeated them in the ears of the LORD. [22] And the LORD said to Samuel, “Obey their voice and make them a king.” Samuel then said to the men of Israel, “Go every man to his city.”
The Israelites knew the stories well about how God delivered them from Egypt, and many other examples of God’s power and care. Yet they still rejected God in favor of an earthly king, even after Samuel warned them. There was no trust in God, and no love for him. God gave them over to their sinful desires.
We do the same thing when we don’t trust God and we don’t seek to honor him with our lives. Like the Israelites, we reject God when we lean on our own understanding, and trust others over our loving Father. Jesus is ready and willing to have a relationship with you, a relationship where he promised to never leave us or forsake us.
