Weakness

2 Cor. 12:10

For when I am weak, then I am strong.

We do everything we can to not be weak. Workouts, eating healthily, limiting ourselves so that we will not be in awkward situations. Trying to live comfortably and limit our exposure to risk and vulnerability. Some of these things are not bad in themselves; our bodies are a temple and we should take care of them. But we shouldn’t be afraid of weakness. If Christ is in us, our weakness, our pain, and suffering even, will make us strong by drawing us closer to God. Without Christ, or when we are not abiding in him, our weakness is intensified. We might be able to put on a good show in front of others, but inside we are riddled with fear, anger, and anxiety. Sometimes that’s what it takes for us to lose ourselves and to desire a closer relationship with God.

“Paul resolved to boast of his weakness. Why? Because it was an avenue for realizing the power of Christ. Weakness isn’t an end itself but a means to an end. Paul rejoiced because of where his weakness brought him. If mercy is what we need and difficulty makes us cry for it, then that difficulty—though unpleasant—becomes a surprising minister. It’s the vehicle that brings us closer to God. Having this perspective will flavor our difficulties with heavenly seasoning.” - He Is Not Ashamed - Erik Raymond
