A Gracious Thing

1 Peter 2:20–23

[20] For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. [21] For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. [22] He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. [23] When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. (ESV)

Whatever our circumstances, we are to do good. In our jobs, at home, or wherever we are doing life. The key here is that God sees, and he is pleased when he sees us do good, even if it means we may suffer for it. Jesus provides the ultimate example of what it looks like to suffer far more than we ever will on this earth, and continuing to trust the father. We may suffer horribly from a human perspective, but we have a friend who suffered the wrath of all our sins as he died on the cross. As we live our lives, no matter what comes our way, we need to turn our focus from ourselves to the one who is trustworthy and who has complete sovereignty over every aspect of our lives.
