A Sacrifice of Thanksgiving

Psalm 50:14–15

“Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High, and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”

Psalm 50:23

“The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!”

God delights in those who give thanks, especially in difficult, even terrible, times. We glorify God by doing this. But how can this be possible? How can we give thanks with sincerity while in the midst of the darkest of dark?

We can give thanks when we call on God in times of trouble. He enables us to do the unthinkable through his power. We don’t have to fake it. If we look to him and call to him, he promises to be with us to move our calls of sorrow and despair, our laments, to thankfulness and praise.

This act of worship is an acceptable, powerful sacrifice in that we are laying ourselves before God, fully trusting in his plans and providence.
