Who Made God?

God’s self-existence. Why it matters.

Take a moment to meditate on God’s word

John 5:26

For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. (ESV)

Revelation 4:11

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God,

to receive glory and honor and power,

for you created all things,

and by your will they existed and were created.” (ESV)

God never began - He always is

John 1:1–4

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. (ESV)

“The Word, therefore, is eternal. He is ageless. To be measured in terms of age you have to have begun at some point from which your time in existence can be calculated. Not the Word! The Word has no birthday. Jesus had a birthday. When the eternally pre-existent Word “became flesh” (John 1:14), the human being we know as Jesus began to be. But the Word who became Jesus never began to be but always is.” - Sam Storms (https://www.samstorms.org/enjoying-god-blog/post/some-thoughts-on-who-made-god)

God doesn’t need us but we are incredibly significant and meaningful to him

“The balancing consideration with respect to this doctrine is the fact that we and the rest of creation can glorify God and bring him joy. This must be stated in order to guard against any idea that God’s independence makes us meaningless. Someone might wonder, if God does not need us for anything, then are we important at all? Is there any significance to our existence or to the existence of the rest of creation? In response it must be said that we are in fact very meaningful because God has created us and he has determined that we would be meaningful to him. That is the final definition of genuine significance.” (https://www.monergism.com/independence-god by Wayne Grudem)

God is a fixed, sure, and lasting foundation

“The people of God, at every point in history, have always found a home with the Most High, He has always been our “dwelling place.” There is nothing stable in this life, except for the Lord. He is not a shallow-pegged tent in the desert, but a fixed, sure and lasting foundation. Through all of life’s ups and downs, our only security and surety is in Him.” - Anthony Mathenia https://christchur.ch/tuesday-takeaway/manifold-majesty-psalm-901-2-4/
