The Importance of the Church

“Furthermore, many Western Christians have been raised in a faith that puts heavy emphasis on the individual (“personal relationship with Jesus”) and little (if any) emphasis on the communal. If Christianity is mostly about doing your own thing with Jesus, then leaving church becomes easy to justify. If church adds something to one’s personal spiritual walk, then great. But if it is a hassle or a hindrance, just ditch it. You can love Jesus without loving the church . . . or so the logic goes.

But as much as church seems like an easy “pass” in today’s world, the reality is it can be an indispensable source of stability and growth; a treasure trove of communal and Spirit-infused wisdom that we’d be foolish to neglect.
