Knowing and Doing
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. - John 13:13-15
Knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things. We have Jesus’s example and God’s Word to instruct us and to better know who we are in Christ. If it’s all in your head, and not in your heart, this is more dangerous than not knowing in the first place. This is true in worship and all of love. Do!
“Note that Jesus says that if we do these things, there will be happiness. It is not just knowing these thing that brings happiness; it is doing them. Throughout Jesus’ teaching these two words know and do occur constantly and always in that order. We cannot do until we know, but we can know without doing. The house built on the rock is the house of the man who knows and does. The house built on the sand is the house of the man who knows but does not do.” No Little People - Francis Schaeffer
